Charles "T." Jones Leadership Library: Policies

Home page for Central Penn's LibGuides.

Library Policies

To borrow anything from the Charles "T." Jones Leadership Library you must have a valid Central Penn ID and an account in good standing. All current Central Penn students, faculty, and staff may check out items and access our online resources on or off-campus. Alumni may check items out of the circulating collection and have walk-in access to most of our online resources.

Borrowing Books

Books, except items in reference and on reserve, circulate for the length of the term. Reference books are for library use only and may not be checked out. Reserve items may be checked out for two hours for use in the library. The reserve collection contains some of the required books for classes that are currently running, and headphones. Obtain reserve items from the circulation desk, your ID will be held until items are returned.

Borrowing DVDs & games

DVDs and games may be borrowed for 7 days.

Borrowing Equipment

Laptops may be borrowed for 7 days. To borrow a laptop you can not have any fines or fees on your library account, and you must read, agree to, and sign the Library/Mobile Device User Agreement.

Renewing Items

Items can be renewed if there are no previous requests for them. Items that have been requested will have holds on them, and this can be seen in the item's record in the catalog. Renew items by contacting the library.

Requesting Items

With the exception of Reserve items, you may request that something be held for you by contacting the library. You may also request items from other libraries with the book and article request web form. The loan period and fees for items requested from other libraries are determined by the lending library. The due date will be circled on the paperwork included with the item when you pick it up. Failure to return items in a timely manner will result in a hold on your account as soon as it becomes overdue. We will notify you through your Central Penn email when requested items become available.

Tracking Your Borrowing

The library system will send a courtesy notice to your Central Penn email address reminding you of items checked out a few days before they are due. You can keep track of the books that you have borrowed and their due dates through your library account. Go to the "My Library – My Account" button on the Catalog's main page. When setting up your account your student ID # will need to have cp in front of it (for ex: cp12345). It is recommended that you set your PIN # to something you can remember. The library will not be able to see your PIN but we can reset it if you forget what it is.

Overdue/Lost Materials

For all items fines will begin to accrue the day after the item is due. Most overdue materials are subject to a fine of $0.20 cents per day. For items on Reserve the fine is $0.20 cents per hour. Video games and Equipment (such as laptops) accrue fines at $2.00 per day. Fines accrued during the term will result in the loss of borrowing privileges.

Up to 3 notices will be sent to your Central Penn College email address, after which you will be billed for replacing the item(s). The loss of any material should be reported immediately. If the material is not found, the borrower is obligated to pay for replacement of the material plus a $15 processing fee. All materials must be returned by the last day of each term. If by the last class day of term materials have not been returned and fines paid, a hold will be placed on the student's account.  The hold will be released when the materials have been returned and fines paid. Any unreturned items and unpaid fines at the beginning of the following term will be added to the student's bill. Questions concerning fines should be taken to a librarian.

In order to provide a welcome area for studying we ask that you not disturb the people around you. That means keeping your voice low, using headphones when listening to music or watching videos, turning your phone notifications & ringtones to silent, and taking phone calls outside or in the vestibule of the library.

Food & Drink

In order to maintain the equipment and furniture in the library there is no food or drink in the library.
