Plagiarism 2 Responses: Is Plagiarism

happy face

You're right!

This is an example of plagiarism because it did not include all the necessary elements of a citation:

  • The publication year is not included
  • The page number (or for a web source, paragraph number) is not included. Although APA does not require a page (or paragraph) number for paraphrases or summaries, it is required for direct quotations.

Here's what was correct about the citation:

  • The quote was enclosed in quotation marks
  • The author was identified

Here’s how we could cite the source correctly and prevent plagiarism:

According to Peter Thiel (2014), "Every culture has a myth of decline from some golden age and almost all peoples throughout history have been pessimists" (p. 63).
