A culminating experience is a final project, experience, or course that asks students to apply the knowledge, skills, and abilities they have gained throughout the educational process to a final academic task. Culminating experiences allow the institution to determine your discipline proficiency and your preparedness for your next steps whether that is the job market or graduate school. Passing your culminating experience is a requirement for graduation.
At Central Penn College, we offer two different culminating experiences for students: internships and capstones.
An internship is an on-the-job educational experience, a hands-on opportunity for students to take the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom and apply them to the working environment. Ideally, an internship will allow students to experience working in a job environment similar to what they will pursue as employment after graduation.

The Capstone course integrates academic and experiential learning through designing, drafting and defending a discipline-specific research project. You will work with a faculty mentor to identify an issue and propose a solution within your field of study. At the end of this course, you will present your project and supporting materials in an online portfolio.
