Academic Integrity 1 Responses: Is a Violation

happy face

You're right!

This is an example of academic dishonesty because it violates the core values of academic integrity:

  • Fairness - it is not fair for your classmates to have to complete the readings while you get away with hearing a summary from a friend
  • Honesty - are you really going to tell the instructor that you didn't complete the readings?
  • Responsibility - you did not responsibly complete the reading assignment

Also consider that your roommate may not be remembering or interpreting the readings correctly. You are placing your trust in a fallible, subjective source of information whose brain works differently from your own. You may come away with a totally different idea of what the readings were about than if you had read them yourself. This robs you of the learning opportunity to think critically, then form your own opinions and ideas about the topic.
