Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)Part of the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA was created "to assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance." The OSHA website has sections for Workers and Employers as well as information on current laws and regulations, training, and more.
Both OSHA and NIOSH were created by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. OSHA, which is part of the Department of Labor, is a regulatory agency with the authority to set and enforce standards relating to workplace safety and worker health. NIOSH, which is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is not a regulatory agency. Its scientists conduct research and make recommendations to improve worker health and safety--the results of NIOSH research contribute to OSHA standards and accompanying regulations.
