Blackboard Basics Guide

Overview

Blackboard Learn 9.1 is the learning management system (LMS) used at Central Penn College.  It is important for all faculty to be proficient in at least the basics of Blackboard since it is used in all courses regardless of delivery mode (on-ground, blended, online).  Blackboard is also utilized to provide students with content equivalent to what would have been presented when the college is closed and a Blackboard Day is declared or class is canceled for another reason.

The purpose of the 'Blackboard Basics Guide' training module is to familiarize faculty with Blackboard.  Upon completion of this training module, participants will be able to set up required course elements (Professor Information, Syllabus, Grade Center) and create resources and assessments to fulfill instructional requirements of a Blackboard Day.

Goals:

  • Navigate Blackboard
  • Understand the Central Penn course template structure
  • Populate Professor Information
  • Upload the course syllabus
  • Communicate with students
  • Add content to course modules
  • Create and grade tests, discussion forums, and assignments
  • Manage the course Grade Center
  • Be aware of additional tools and resources for creation of course content and assessments
