APA Style & Citation 7th edition

Central Penn uses APA Style & Citation Format. This style is based on the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.). A copy of the APA Manual is available for use in the Library and the Learning Center. There have been a few changes with the 7th edition of the manual.

• Variation between professional and student paper formats  - Student papers include course number and name, Instructor name, assignment due date (month spelled out, date, year), and page number;  but no running head, author note, abstract or keywords unless specified by the instructor
• Additional font options: 12 point Times New Roman, Georgia, Calibri, or Arial 11 point, or 10 point Lucida are recommended
• In references, no publisher location in references
• In references list up to 20 authors for a source (previously 8 authors). For more than 20 authors, list the first 19 authors then use ellipses ... then the last author.
• In in-text citations, with 3 or more authors use et al. from the 1st citation (previously it wasn't until there were six authors that you could do this from the 1st citation)
• One space after a period
• Hyperlink urls & DOIs
• Heading levels: Level 3 headings are now flush left and in italic font (previously indented with no italics), and level 4 in not in italics (previously it was italicized)
